Set up your Minecraft server

Choose a version, set your world options and let friends join.

  1. Order Minecraft Java Edition and wait for the server to show Active. Installation normally finishes within minutes.
  2. Open the control panel and press Start. The first start generates the world and the configuration files.
  3. Choose your Minecraft version in the Startup tab. Restart after changing it, and back up the world before switching versions.
  4. Edit server.properties from the Files tab to change the game mode, difficulty, view distance and player limit.
  5. Share the address from your dashboard with friends. Players must run the same game version.
  6. To restrict access, turn on the whitelist and add players, or give yourself operator rights from the console.

Never share your password, a bot token, a private key or card details with anyone, including Hartwell staff.
